Support of the strategic plan of the Ugandan Ministry of Health in the West Nile Region (CUAMM)

In Uganda, Doctors with Africa Cuamm implements a support project for the reorganisation of the non-profit health services in the Arua and Nebbi dioceses (Adjumani, Arua, Moyo and Nebbi districts), which is part of the broader national healthcare policy of public-private partnerships. This project aims to strengthen and improve the diocesan healthcare services as well as coordinating them with the district healthcare services. It involves both local services and those provided by the hospitals of Maracha, Angal and Nyapea.

Amongst others, the project supports the implementation of the Ugandan Ministry of Health’s 5-year strategic plan (2000-2005) and has three main components: help in financing the state’s budget; technical assistance provided by an expert sent to work at the health ministry; and support for Unicef’s national plan in the districts of Arua, Nebbi and Yumbe. The areas of activity include HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, vaccinations and the registration of births. These activities are conducted mainly through selected boroughs in each district. As well as these specific areas of activity, technical assistance is provided to the district’s healthcare offices, above all in planning and monitoring activities and information systems.
