"Roots" is an old tree with a diameter of 90 meters. It is a holy place chosen by local communities for worshipping. Right behind this impressive place there is a gate where you can enter Mtangani village.
Mtangani is a village with about 7000 people at the edge of Malindi. People live in mud houses with no electricity and water. The local dispensary is an abandoned building only half finished; the public toilet lacks water connection and the next health center is a few kilometers away. Malaria is a huge problem in the village, since villagers sleep outdoor in hot seasons where they have no protection from mosquito bites. The few nets available are often misused for keeping chicken or protecting plants from being eaten by goats.
