„Poverty can pack up“ Campaign
On the occasion of the UN High-Level Meeting on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which takes place on September 25th 2008 in New York, DEINE STIMME GEGEN ARMUT, the German branch of the Global Call for Action against Poverty, released a shadow report on the MDGs in collaboration with STOP MALARIA NOW! and eight other campaigns. The shadow report analyses the engagement of the German government and contains concrete recommendations on how the German government can advance its efforts towards reaching the MDGs by 2015. According to the MDG-Report 2008, the achievement of these goals is still a distant prospect.

“Poverty can pack up” was therefore inscribed on a suitcase, which was handed to the German Development Minister Wieczorek-Zeul on September 18th 2008 in Berlin by an alliance of development campaigns. The suitcase contained items symbolising the eight MDGs. These items, one of which is an insecticide-treated mosquito net from STOP MALARIA NOW!, are meant to remind the German government of its commitments towards reaching the MDGs by 2015.
