"Insight Malaria" Film - Making of

13 young film makers on a joint mission in Kenya: Stop Malaria Now!

The youth worked together with a professional film team on the story of their documentation, and learned how to use the technical equipment. Each member of the group with its own experiences and perceptions played his/her part in the joint venture of making a film on the deadly disease. The film aims at raising awareness on malaria and will celebrate its premiere in 2011.

The shoot took place in Malindi at Kenya's coast.

The participants learned how to use the equipment...

... and explored the plot of the film together, e.g.

a mosquito scout checking the mosquito population at a tourist hotel or

local people telling their stories on living with the disease.

And there was always time for a little fun!

The participants and the film crew stood up to protest against poverty.

The film crew travelled further to Western Kenya to visit a children center...

... and herbal medicine farmer ...

... who produces powder from the artimisia plant locally.

They witnessed a community presentation on how to use bed nets ...

... and visited a hospital. Here, most cases of disease are due to malaria.

This is what mosquito love.

Participants showed solidarity with the victims of malaria.

Cameras can be very funny!

The youth learned about daily life in Africa...

... and the various (mis)use of mosquito nets.

However, there is hope and initiative like the local production of herbal malaria medicine from artimisia annua.

We are excited to see at the German film premiere on 15th of April in Cologne. Join us there >>
