Health centers and dispensaries particularly at community level play an important role in providing basic health care and disease prevention programs to their patients. In the so-called 'healthy talks' which are an initiative of Malindi Mosquito Control Association (PUMMA), malaria diagnosis, treatment and prevention measures are explained to the patients while they are waiting for treatment.

But not all offer a wide range of services. Many dispensaries in Kenya, especially in the rural locations, are hard to reach for the patients, lack staff and laboratory facilities as well as facing medicine stock outs.
