BREEDING SITES / LAKE

Stagnant waters serve as perfect breeding sites for Anopheles mosquitoes.

Controlling the mosquito population is an important instrument in the fight against malaria. Apart from chemicals, which are a hazard to humans and environment alike, biological methods can be applied to limit the larvae before they develop into mosquitoes. One of these methods is the introduction of Gambia or Tilapia fish which eat the larvae and also serve as a source of income for local communities that can sell the fish on the market.
