29 years, Community Health Officer, Malindi Prison Dispensary
I have been working in Malindi Prison Dispensary for about five years. I am the Community Health Officer in charge of a population of 14.500 people. Apart from myself we have two nurses working in the dispensary. We see a lot of patients every day. But due to the limited number of staff we are struggling to serve all of them. Many people then have to wait for hours until being treated. Our biggest health challenge is malaria. Since we do not have enough mosquito nets, we are not able to provide all pregnant women and children under five with those. Moreover, we do not have a laboratory to do malaria testing.
